ISO 9001-2000The significant differences between the 2000 and 1994 editions include:: ISO 9002 and 9003 standards were withdrawn Increased requirements for formerly registered companies to demonstrate why design is not applicable. ISO 9004 revised to set requirements for quality management. More Service provider, less Manufacturer-related requirements emphasis Remember the "twenty elements"? Now, there will only be four: Management Responsibility, Resource Management, Product Realization and Measurement, Analysis, and Improvement. More customer satisfaction requirements More requirements for measuring, monitoring, and documenting evidence of customer satisfaction programs. Corrective and Preventive Action New and more clear requirements for corrective and preventive action, and requirement that a formal policy be implemented on continuous improvement, vs. a passing phrase in the '94 edition. Mapping the new requirements to the '20 elements' most familiar to the certified is an interesting exercise, and may be a good starting point for familiarizing yourself with the structure of the new draft. Further details on the above main changes to the standard are available here.
